The patio beckoned at Jackson’s in Homewood’s Soho Square. About two dozen MOBsters came out for happy hour, and the rain held off until the very end.

Birmingham’s June Ed2010 event

index_r1_c9.gif

Greetings, Edsters!

With summer here and the quick approach of Independence Day, we thought wheelbarrow races would be a perfect fit for our June event. Unfortunately, our small Ed test audience disagreed. Instead…

Ed2010, ed2010.com, is a networking group for aspiring magazine editors who want to reach their dream jobs by the year 2010.

As long as this rain continues to hold off, we’ll be at the tables outside.

See you there,
Kathleen and Carla Jean

We had a grand time at Icon at the Tutwiler. Mr. T was a no show, but are you gonna be the one to chide him?

Our thanks to Mojo at Photo Mojo for taking great photos of the event.

Panicked moment: About an hour into the event, the bartender said, “So, do you want to continue putting everyone’s drinks on your tab?” WTF?! Umm, just how many people have been drinking on my dime?

Be sure to let your bartender know, when you open a tab, it’s just for you, not you and 200 of your new best friends.

On the dial

WBHM (90.3 FM) picked up a slew of Alabama Associated Press Broadcasters’ Association awards and Radio and Television News Directors’ Association Edward R. Murrow awards in the radio category recently, while ABC 33/40, Fox 6 and NBC 13 also picked up trophies in the TV category of both contests.

Podcasting powwow

Daniel Walters of Digitally Demented announces:

What do an emergency physician, a punk rock DJ obsessed with dead people, a tank girl who has a thing for bunnies, and a production-crazed college student all have in common?

No, we’re not all losing our minds, we’re getting together. OK, maybe the better way to say it is that we’re holding a get-together.

Tuesday, May 22, at the Pita Stop at 6 p.m., we’re looking to invite anyone and everyone interested in podcasting. 1106 12th St. S. [map]

Yes, I said podcasting. It’s that new buzzword that’s been flying around for the last two or three years now and we want Birmingham to get in on this bandwagon.

We’ll be hanging out, grabbing some grub, and answering any questions that we can answer about podcasting.

If you have a remote interest in podcasting, audio production, or just wanna hang out with some cool people, come on out! We’d love to have you!

May event: We Pity the Fool

Mr. T. You know, he was B.A. Baracus on “The A-Team” (which was wrongly convicted, btw). The B.A.? Bad Attitude.

He pities you. He pities me. Because, in his eyes, we are fools.

And yet, we celebrate him and his very special birthday this month

Join the MOB at the brand spanking new Icon in the Tutwiler. Have a few drinks, try out an appetizer or two, and network with your pals in media, advertising, PR and Web. Come by any time between 5:30 and 7:30. [map]

Complete details are available on the Evite — be sure to invite your friends.

Contact us with any questions or leave a comment, or if you need flyers to post/e-mail.

P.P.S. Mr. T reminds you to treat your mama right this May.

Congrats, Brett! A Pulitzer!

As reported by The Birmingham News:

Brett J. Blackledge of The Birmingham News was awarded The Pulitzer Prize for Investigative Reporting today.

Blackledge received the honor, the highest in American journalism, for his 14-month investigation of Alabama’s two-year college system, in which he reported corruption, cronyism and nepotism on a wide scale.

“What’s remarkable about this award is it basically affirms what we do every day,” Blackledge said. “There’s nothing magical about this. It’s 98 percent of the stuff we do every day. It’s extraordinary, yet very ordinary.”

You can find a selection of the articles that got Brett this huge honor here
