Required education/experience/skillsBA degree and two-to-five years of journalistic experience (magazine, newspaper, online or corporate communications) that shows career advancementDemonstrated superior editing/writing skills and ability to sweat details while managing multiple tasksDemonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a teamPrimary Responsibilties:Developing story ideas and assigning storiesBrainstorming on cover ideas, feature and column ideas, cover story concepts, Scatterbrained themes, etcCopy editing storiesManaging source lists and fact-checking processes by being a “first reviewer”Managing the proofreading and “author approval” processesHelping to write cover copyHelping to recruit new writersContinuing development of the mental_floss Style Guide
Serving as a “first filter” for all submissions sent via the web site
Helping with any editing/ “light” writing needed for non-magazine projects (media kits, e-newsletter, subscription notices, web site, house ads, occasional blog posts, etc.) |
